Thats right, I don't know anyone who does not want a cool car!
Of course you can't always have one. But if you can your going to get it.
I've wasted so much money on motorcycles that cars have always been of secondary importance to me. I have however owned a few pretty cool cars that were fun to drive, and I drive mine.
My favorite of all was my 1987 Buick T Type. Although the brakes on this car were horrible, the car was awesome fast. I spent the least amount of money on this car and with what little work I did, this car the sleeper of it's day. Running a miget 3.8 V6 Buick dropped in a Turbo and intercooler and it brought this car to life. It flat hauled ass. I bought this car for ten grand, put 130,000 miles on it and sold it for 11,500. Now thats what I call a value!
My Camaro was a labor of love. I spent way to much time and money on this car during my hiatus from motorcycling. It had a lot of suspension work, some motor work, an insane interior that included Recaro seats, killer audio system and lots hand detailing. I loved the body lines and this was just a beautiful car. Ended up say goodbye to it during my divorce.
The Ford Probe was a great wanna be racer. It actually wasn't a bad car. With a few suspension mods and a fairly stock motor that had a few mods I ran the shit out of it.I liked the car so much I went through two motors before I sold it with some 140,000 miles on it.
After I married Karoline I bought her a couple of BMWs. Nice cars with nice lines, but fragile and expensive as hell to maintain. I have to say that the motors were awesome and had a ton of grunt. Handliing was decent, but nothing to write home about. I personally thought they were over priced and Karoline wasn't all that enamored with either of them. Driving them in any kind of snow was not fun, and snowy inclines were impassable. When a seven grand Geo Metro blows by you going up a hill in the snow and your classy ass fifty thousand dollar Bemmer is just sitting there spinning it's wheels, well we figured it was time for them to go away and so we sold em.
I bought a Dodge 5.9 Ram truck and was quickly lured into insane speed. This was one ass kicking truck. Awesome lines and an engine that had gobs of power. I mean never ending ripe your eyes out acceleration. Chrysler had a towing issue with the truck after they sold it and offered me a full money back refund and so after two years of driving and racing it back and forth to Deals Gap loaded with bikes I turned it in and got 100% of my investment back. This was the second best investment I made in an automobile.
I've owned a few Chevy trucks while running the trackday company. They were nothing to write home about. I also owned a Buick Rainer which was the most comfortable SUV I've ever driven. It had all of the amenities and it was quiet. You could load it up full, tow a trailer and never notice any difference in handling. I loved this truck, but it was a massive gas hog and so it left the fold after I shut down the trackday company.
I decided after I retired that I would get something smaller that we could do a little traveling in and was kind of talked into a Ford Escape. So I bought the top of the line Escape with a leather interior. This truck does not compare in anyway to any vehicle I have ever owned. The craftsmanship is horrible and cheap. The leather interior is paper thin and overall it is just the worst behicle I have ever owned. It's not hard to see why Ford as a company is in the crapper right now. This vehicleis completely the opposite of the the Probe I owned and has convinced me to be very cautious about buying a Ford product in the future.. Not a great vehicle!
I had considered building a kit type sports car, however after getting a first hand look at the building of them and the actual engineering, as well as the overall cost to put one together I think buying a new Corvette is probably a better option for most people, including me. One thing that the USA made Corvette offers is a fully developed and race engineered vehicle for under sixty grand. I mean it's a car that is well developed and you could easily spend sixty building a kit car that might run with the Vette. So I'm on the fence as to what my next fun project might be. I am looking at building a car of some sort in the future since I am no longer doing bikes. I gotta spend some money on something you know :) So a Corvette might be part of my future, although the new Shelby Mustang looks mighty enticing.
I love anything that goes fast really and cars do that in a way that makes me want to own one, even when I did need one as basic transportation.
