Las Vegas. WOW, this is an interesting place.
I'm not much of a gambler. At least not in Vegas with the odds stacked so highly against you. Although I must say the gambling I have done there has been good and I have always won.
The interesting part of this town, and I've been there quite a few times now is that there are so many things to do. Blue Man Group comes to mind as one of the must see shows. If your a into a crazy night with loud music these guys rock. And two thumbs up for Tracy Bonham and Adrian Hartley either or who perform the Who's Baba ORielly and Donna Summer's I feel love to a new level. I mean this show is worth seeing.
Great food is around every corner and the gambling and drinking atmosphere makes this place a true 24/7 party.
This is the one town that you can roll into, party your ass off, gamble, sight see and leave without anyone knowing you were there.
For Karoline and I all of the casinos and hotels are alike. I don't recall the name of the hotel, but the mall inside it pretty much emulates daytime all night which is very interesting if you are someone who never sleeps. It kind of works.
It's also a place you can do on the cheap. Hunt around, because we have gotten some killer rooms at the nicer hotels on the bolevard by using the web and booking ahead. The MGM is always dealing. Late fall seems to be the cheapest .
Taxi cab pricing is questionable, rather some of the drivers are. If you don't know the exact route to where you are going, most are going to take te long route. Another words your cab ride isn't going to be cheap.
Old town is actually pretty damm fun. We have stayed down that way as well. The hotels are not as nice as the bolevard but they are much cheaper. And the strip down there rocks at night.
There is a pretty cool outdoor mall just outside of the strip, one of the fastest indoor kart tracks I have been on and if you want to wander out of town there is XPlex outdoor karting and further down the road is Primm. There is a decent outlet Mall in Primm as well as more casinos.
For Karoline and I the best part is that Parhump and Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch is a nice 1 1/2 drive through kick ass country. You drive right by Red Rocks which is a cool little park and it's on the way up to Parhump which is in the middle of nowhere USA and where hotels and gambling are really cheap.
You'll also want to check out Hoover Dam. 35 miles from Las Vegas, it is an amazing work of art and water management.
You are a stones throw from the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Parks and the drive from Vegas to them is a throwback to the past. Head out of Vegas towards any of these parks and you envision John Wayne around every corner as the incredible mountain vistas and plateaus abound in all of the colors you see in pictures. many of these trips can be made by helicopter as well!
Freddie Spencers riding school is also down the road at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Overall Vegas is such a cheap vacation and so much damm fun, if you haven't been there, GO.
