I've spent the last 4 or 5 years attending the Indy dealer show and I thought I would share some of what the show is about with those who are not able to go and see the two wheeled spectacle that it is.
My main interest in going has been to touch base with some of the vendors/sponsors who have helped me out over the years. I constanly run into people from the past. It's also a great place to see some very cool stuff.
My favorite section is always the Italian stuff. They always have the trickest billet and carbon fiber stuff.
There are usually some very cool one off factory or MotoGP bikes, SuperMoto, and Dirtbikes. All worth a look as I always see something new or unusual that I might want to build on a future bike.
Many of the companies bring in the superstar riders for autograph sessions. Eric Bostrom always shows up. In 2007 he brough Ben with him. Kenny Roberts, Nickey Hayden, Kevin Swantz and Colin Edwards are just a few of the names I recall.
In 2002 I spent a good 30 minutes with Nicky Hayden in the Joe Rocket booth. Not a single person stopped there during our conversation. He was very cool and friendly. I bet his live isn't that easy anymore.
You get a chance to see all of the latest offerings in lether, helmets, tires, pipes and on and on.
The show is housed in the Indianapolis convention center which is huge. The RCA Dome is attached and is also full of stuff . They are also using a few of the attached hotels to display goodies. This is a mega show to say the least.
At any rate. If anyone ever offers to take you along to this show. Take them up on it. You won't be sorry you went.
