You need to be grateful of those who have served!

Having served in the military from 1975 - 1981 I can not forget those who serve our country in the name of freedom. I'd be the first to say that WAR in and of itself is rarely the anwser to the problem. Yet leaders of countrys will always have an axe to grind and so countrys will fight, people will enlist to serve and protect this country and people will die doing it.

With out going into my personal feelings about the current war, everyone should try to remember that those currently serving may or may not believe 100% in the situation they find themselfs in. Being in the military means that you have no options, part of serving your country is that you make a commitment to serving the orders of the Commander in Chief, the President of the United States up to and including death. Solider's obey orders from those we freely choose to run our country whether those we have chosen make the right or the wrong decisions in entering into war. As a soldier you commit to putting your life on the line at a moments notice, every day of your enlistment.

I have always felt that it should be an obligation by every American male and female to serve in one way or another, yet it is not. And so those who serve have shown a willingness to protect the freedom of those who do not serve. It may not be right but it is what freedom stands for. No matter what your politics may be, and no matter what your feelings are about this war or wars before or to come, every American owes it to those who have served or are currently serving our country the highest honor possible and that is the support of those of us not currently in their position.

Think about it.

Some thoughts on the military care system.

It's a sad state when you serve your country and return home and need to use a military hospital. I say that firsthand having used both the dental program and the hospital after my service.

To say that the state of these hospitals and the carethat our heros recieve is atrocious would be an understatement. It's interesting how much Americans are willing to giveup in taxes and yet this antiquated system is the best that we have to offer.

I look forward to the day that we have a President and a congress who care about those who have served to make our lives, our futures safe and prosperous. A goverment that rewards these heros by taking care of them when they are sick or injured in the line of duty. Who finish the deal and help these heros get back on their feet without haveing to wade through miles and miles of red tape while sitting in an antiquated military facility. I mean what exactly is it going to take to make this happen and to give these heros some semblance of a reasonable life..

In this day and age of technology and taxation it seems that these so called polital leaders would work hard provide them with a prosperous enconomy so that they can come home to a job and try to regain some sense of family life.

I know first hand how little you are paid in the military and saving is next to impossible, especially if you have a family to support. And yes you've made the choice of a low income if you have enlisted. However, it also seems as though our political leaders could work harder, and work together to ensure that the families of the people who are protecting our country, our rights and our freedoms should be able to afford to live a life free of bill collectors, forclousers and harrassment while their loved ones serve in the battles and for some of whom die for our country, for us, for freedom, to survive until their loved ones return home and can find gainful employment. This is not the case and you have to wonder why?

This may be wishful thinking but it certainly seems like the appropriate thing to do.
