Trackdays 2001
Getting off of the street and onto the track regulary for me really got rolling in2001.
The long ass eight hour drives down south were not as much fun anymore and with Deals Gap or better yet Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina being the closest place to really use a sportbike for what it was intended for, I found that the track began to look like a great alternative.
In all honesty Deals Gap had gotten a little crazy and we had so many people going down there with us it was more like a mob and you kind of lose control over the amount of craziness that is going on around you. It really took the fun out of it and this track thing looked like it might fill the bill...... at least for a while.
So in the summer of 2001 my brother Mark invited me down to his place and off we went to Little Talladega in Alabama to ride a private trackday together with a few of his friends. I think that this event is probably where I grew to love smaller track events. I really enjoyed the laid back riding enviroment. This was something that I would learn after spending a year or so with STT and the number of riders they put on the track.
Dean Miljkovic really pushed Don Proctor and I to come out and ride Grattan with him and Bojan and by years end Don Proctor, My brother Mark, Don Nangle, Bob Ditner and Allen Pett were all part of the group we had running around at trackdays.
Wasn't quite like a Deals Gap adventure or in the after hours fun, it was a more serious and intense kind of fun. And so we kind of gave up on the closeness of the Gap crew for trackdays..
For me 2001 was pretty much all about the riding and having a good time... and then I met the owners of STT and by late 2002 the "all about riding or fun aspect of trackdays disappeared.
