X Plex - Las Vegas
So Karoline and I headed out for the two day Spring Mountain Ti2TT trackday event and what do you know, karts are runningon the West track.
So we wander over and I see Sandy Rainey and I notice he is working on this killer blue kart. We get up to the beast and low and behold it's Eddie Lawsons TZ 250 shifter kart and Eddie is there racing.
Needless to say I spent some time chatting up Mr. Rainey and Eddies fabricator. This kart is awesome. Trick doesn't describe this thing. Carbon fiber bodywork and Titanim abound on this rig.
Eddie left no doubt of the speed he and this kart have as he completely blew away every lap record by car and bike. Fast hardly describes what the combo is.
So why does Eddie race karts and not bike? Well he can show up and basically nobody bothers him. No one really knows who he is in terms of his motorcycle world titles. He is looked at as just another kart racer and it looked as though he was having a great time.
After the trackday event we hung out in Vegas before heading over to X Plex for another killer day of 4 wheeled speed.
Xplex is such an interesting track. Although there is very little elevation on the track it is still a tough lap.
From start to finish you are pressed by big G loads. Turn one is a flat out deal and it basically ties the front straightaway to the back straightaway which culminates into a right hand hairpin corner and some heavy braking.
Like all kart tracks momentum is the key and your drive from turn two through three is critical to having huge speed through turn four and then carrying it through turn 5/6 into the turn 7 hairpin where you need to be patient as the corner is very slow and you need some steam exiting it as you head to turn 8 running up the apron.
From there you ar really on the gas and heading into turn nine you begin a huge G pull. As you hit turn 10 you are flat on the gas and the light post off to your right loams heavy in your mind as you commited at this point and the upcoming tun 11 is there before you know it and you are again tryin hard to keep the momentum for the drive down the front straightaway to the finish line.
This track is bumpy and it vety hard on the body. When you leave you get to remember all the fun you had as you'll pay for it for the next few days.
I brought Aaron, Shaun and Evan along and we had a blast racing all day.
